It's because they are putting less poison into their body and are exercising more. . Tons of bigger people feel great just because they eat healthy and exercise.
Lost weight, felt better.so dieting is for me./People who lose weight feel better. That is because you are eating less junk and possibly exercising more. Stop denying yourself yummy foods, just eat the homemade versions more often. It is because you are eating less junk, which everyone can agree that junk food does not help a person feel good at all. The more junk you put into your body, the worse you will feel. So, instead of going to Dunkin Donuts, make it at home with wholesome ingredients that will nourish your body with goodness and make you feel better. Eat healthy, you don't have to eat less. There are numerous negative psychological effects and negative effects on the body when you deny yourself food that you want to eat. Just eat it, but make it healthy of course!!! And putting less POISON into your body is sure enough to make you feel better! That is why eating the SAME thing just making it with wholesome ingredients is sure to help you enjoy the foods you love WHILE providing your body with healthy foods and help you feel much better no matter what size you are. When people decide to lose weight THAT'S when they decide to eat more fruits, veggies, grains, nuts, seeds and everything else that is healthy. THAT'S when they start to take interest in organic foods instead of heavily processed foods loaded with harmful chemical additives,THAT'S when they start to exercise more and be more physically active and THAT' S when they decide to like their body. THAT'S when they decide to take better care of themselves and pamper themselves by wearing more makeup and dressing sexier.and THAT'S when they start making their own food at home using healthy ingredients instead of ordering out Do all that stuff at any size and you'll feel amazing at any weight and size.

Note: some of these sites talk about "weight gain" as a negative effect of dieting. It is my opinion that "weight gain" in this sense is dangerous becasuse it's not the result of eating too many calories but our body in a mode where it things it is being starved and many things are happening inside of us similar to people being malnourished such as "protein energy malnutrition" and "kwashiorkor"

- "Your Body Does Not Want You To Lose Weight" @ Ravishly - "This is the conclusion researchers came to in their upcoming article for the journal Obesity. The report comes from a long-term study following a season's worth of The Biggest Loser contestants for six years after their reality show appearance. All of them submitted to grueling diet and exercise regimes over a short period of time to lose astonishing amounts of weight on the show. Then they went home, where their bodies started doing everything in their power to put that weight back on.The New York Times covered the research in detail, speaking with the study/reality show participants about their personal experiences. There’s a lot of science about resting metabolic rates and leptin levels (I’m sure the journal article will be even more science-y), but the basic conclusion is that the human body’s response to starvation is to make it harder to starve."

"Susan Powter (born 22 December 1957) is an Australian-born motivational speaker, nutritionist, personal trainer and author, who rose to fame in the 1990s with her catchphrase "Stop the Insanity!", which was the centerpiece of her weight loss infomercial. Photos of an overweight female served as a backdrop to her stage presentation, and while they appeared to represent Powter in earlier years, they were generally considered somewhat unrecognizable as Powter, leading to accusations of fraud. She hosted her own talk show The Susan Powter Show in the 1990s.Powter is author of several books, three of which became New York Times best-sellers in the 1990s. - Why We Need To Stop Perpetuating This Weight-Loss Myth by Liz black - " began accomplishing lifelong goals that I had thought were impossible, once I stopped putting so much weight on my weight.Hearing Oprah’s opening line brought back a flood of memories. I can still remember the malice I enacted on myself, the years of truly believing that anything I did was tainted by my fatness. How could someone as accomplished as Oprah still think that she was not all the woman she could be simply because she’s overweight? She has changed our cultural landscape, infected the zeitgeist with quotable car giveaways, and her stamp of approval can still make or break a product. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, has honorary doctorates from both Duke and Harvard, and is regarded as the most influential woman in the world. But even with all of these accolades, she still sees her weight as a hinderance to “the woman she truly is.”Instead of preying on viewers’ damaged body image, by suggesting that they cannot be who they truly are while they’re still overweight, or implying that being fat prevents you from succeeding at life, Oprah should have highlighted how important it is to take care of ourselves, body and mind, and how Weight Watchers’ program could play a role in that. It’s just too much: We’ve seen Oprah through thick and thin, but even with billions of dollars at her disposal, she is still “struggling” with her weight. If someone like Oprah still can’t see past her size, what hope do the rest of us mere mortals have? "" Side note from me: Oprah has stock in the company. which means the more she tells us to hate ourselves, the more money she makes. Can we just about the fact that no matter how much money or accomplishments you have, you will probably become a sell out. For me, it's not about oprah pushing weight loss, but it's about how much of a sell out she became. Really? I thought you spent your life telling women they can be whatever they want and now all of a sudden they can't exist without losing weight?*cough* sell out *cough*

- "Dieting also leads to changes in the hormones of the gastrointestinal system, the so-called gut hormones. Some of those hormones (such as leptin and peptide YY) influence when you feel full, and others (including ghrelin) influence when you feel hungry. Levels of leptin and peptide YY decrease after dieting, whereas levels of ghrelin increase. So food that made you feel full before you dieted will feel less satisfying as your diet goes on, and the extra hunger makes it that much harder to stick to your diet.To make matters worse, another counterproductive result of dieting is neurological changes that may make food seem even more tempting and even harder to resist than before. Brain-imaging studies by Eric Stice and his colleagues found that, when shown pictures of high-calorie foods, people who had fasted for as few as five hours that day or had lost even two pounds in the last two weeks had increased activation in brain regions associated with liking and craving those foods, paying attention to those foods, and being motivated to acquire and eat them. Stice and his colleagues also found that the longer you deprive yourself, the more appetizing and tougher to resist the foods get. Not surprisingly, these neurological changes have been linked to weight gain.None of this is to suggest that no one successfully loses weight and keeps it off for several years. But based on surveys of those who do, conducted by Rena Wing at the Brown University's Alpert Medical School, these folks are not casual dieters. Rather, they tend to make weight loss a singular focus of their life, weighing themselves and everything they eat every day. They tend to eat the same foods in the same amounts most days, and they exercise a ton: a minimum of an hour a day, seven days a week. As obesity expert Kelly Brownell, dean of Duke University’s School of Public Policy, told the New York Times, “They never don’t think about their weight.”....The bottom line is that your goal to keep weight off is at odds with your body’s goal to keep you alive. And your body has the upper hand, making this an unfair fight." - Oprah’s Investment in Weight Watchers Was Smart Because the Program Doesn’t Work By Traci Mann

- As with the other Hellenistic schools of philosophy, the Epicureans believed that the goal of human life is happiness. The Epicureans defined pleasure as the absence of pain (mental and physical), and hence pleasure can only increase up until the point in which pain is absent. Beyond this, pleasure cannot increase further, and indeed one cannot rationally seek bodily pleasure beyond the state of aponia. For Epicurus, aponia was one of the static (katastematic) pleasures, that is, a pleasure one has when there is no want or pain to be removed. To achieve such a state, one has to experience kinetic pleasures, that is, a pleasure one has when want or pain is being removed." - Wikipedia . dieting is the opposite of this. You are miserable and the only reason you get excited is because society tells you the only way you can be loved is if you are thin.

The publication is a definitive treatise on the morphology, biochemistry, physcology, psychology, and medical aspects of calorie undernutrition, cachexia, starvation, and rehabilitation in man.Presented critically and systematically are the fact and theory from the world literature, including the evidence from World War II and the finding of the Minnesota Starvation Experiment (1944*1946). Pertinent experiments and field and clinical observations to 1949 are covered."
- STARVATION AND BEHAVIOR @ Joy Project -"One of the most important advancements in the understanding of eating disorders is the recognition that severe and prolonged dietary restriction can lead to serious physical and psychological complications (Garner, 1997). Many of the symptoms once thought to be primary features of anorexia nervosa are actually symptoms of starvation. Given what we know about the biology of weight regulation, what is the impact of weight suppression on the individual? This is particularly relevant for those with anorexia nervosa, but is also important for people with eating disorders who have lost significant amounts of body weight. Perhaps the most powerful illustration of the effects of restrictive dieting and weight loss on behavior is an experimental study conducted almost 50 years ago and published in 1950 by Ancel Keys and his colleagues at the University of Minnesota (Keys et al., 1950). The experiment involved carefully studying 36 young, healthy, psychologically normal men while restricting their caloric intake for 6 months. More than 100 men volunteered for the study as an alternative to military service; the 36 selected had the highest levels of physical and psychological health, as well as the most commitment to the objectives of the experiment. What makes the "starvation study" (as it is commonly known) so important is that many of the experiences observed in the volunteers are the same as those experienced by patients with eating disorders. "
- The psychology of hunger @ APA - "The research protocol called for the men to lose 25 percent of their normal body weight. They spent the first three months of the study eating a normal diet of 3,200 calories a day, followed by six months of semi-starvation at 1,570 calories a day (divided between breakfast and lunch), then a restricted rehabilitation period of three months eating 2,000 to 3,200 calories a day, and finally an eight-week unrestricted rehabilitation period during which there were no limits on caloric intake. Their diet consisted of foods widely available in Europe during the war, mostly potatoes, root vegetables, bread and macaroni. The men were required to work 15 hours per week in the lab, walk 22 miles per week and participate in a variety of educational activities for 25 hours a week. Throughout the experiment, the researchers measured the physiological and psychological changes brought on by near starvation.During the semi-starvation phase the changes were dramatic. Beyond the gaunt appearance of the men, there were significant decreases in their strength and stamina, body temperature, heart rate and sex drive. The psychological effects were significant as well. Hunger made the men obsessed with food. They would dream and fantasize about food, read and talk about food and savor the two meals a day they were given. They reported fatigue, irritability, depression and apathy. Interestingly, the men also reported decreases in mental ability, although mental testing of the men did not support this belief. For some men, the study proved too difficult. Data from three subjects were excluded as a result of their breaking the diet and a fourth was excluded for not meeting expected weight loss goals."
- Minnesota Starvation Experiment, @ Wikipedia - "The investigation was designed to determine the physiological and psychological effects of severe and prolonged dietary restriction and the effectiveness of dietary rehabilitation strategies....Indeed, most of the subjects experienced periods of severe emotional distress and depression. There were extreme reactions to the psychological effects during the experiment including self-mutilation (one subject amputated three fingers of his hand with an axe, though the subject was unsure if he had done so intentionally or accidentally).[5] Participants exhibited a preoccupation with food, both during the starvation period and the rehabilitation phase. Sexual interest was drastically reduced, and the volunteers showed signs of social withdrawal and isolation.[1]:123–124 The participants reported a decline in concentration, comprehension and judgment capabilities, although the standardized tests administered showed no actual signs of diminished capacity. There were marked declines in physiological processes indicative of decreases in each subject’s basal metabolic rate (the energy required by the body in a state of rest), reflected in reduced body temperature, respiration and heart rate. Some of the subjects exhibited edema in their extremities, presumably due to decreased levels of plasma proteins given that the body's ability to construct key proteins like albumin is based on available energy sources." &&& The Minnesota Starvation Experiment uploaded by 15curtma While this shows the effects during war on restrictive eating, it is the same outcome as dieting, the same sort of calorie restriction we use to lose weight.
15curtma - "Dieting, then, is an attempt to defy the set point. Viewed in this manner, dieting is a thoroughly unnatural behavior. When a person's weight falls below the set point, the body makes certain adjustments to thrwart further assaults on its preferred weight." - Pg. 26. Big Fat Lies by Glenn A Gaesser

- I’m on a semi-starvation diet, why am I so hungry?By MICHELLE - " If long-term research on diet has taught us anything, it’s that most people’s bodies do not like being in negative energy balance — the state required to lose weight — for very long.People can and do suppress their hunger by focusing intently on their diet, but as soon as their attention wavers — say, they get sick, or they get really busy at work, or some family comes to visit — it is almost inevitable that they will go back to eating more. Often, more than they would have if they hadn’t been restricting. And if their attention never wavers, there’s a chance they’ve triggered an underlying eating disorder.Ignoring one’s hunger signals requires enormous effort, and I’m not convinced that for people who do it successfully, it’s always a good thing. In the case of an eating disorder, it’s definitely not.If you’re on a calorie restriction diet, you have two options: you can continue restricting and just put up with the hunger (and the binges and weight regain that will almost certainly follow), or you can decide that your body’s hunger signals are not wrong, are not aberrations, and are, in fact, worth listening to and respecting. You can decide that you have the right to eat what you need, not go hungry, and to weigh what your body prefers…and that you can still improve your health and body image, if you want to, even if your weight never changes.
- physiology of hunger hormone changed by how we FEEL about the food Posted by katja - "The great irony to me was the last sentence, “Perhaps if we can begin to approach even the healthiest foods with a mindset of indulgence, we will experience the physiological satisfaction of having our cake and eating it too.” Forehead slap. Why not approach all foods with indulgence and joy, and perhaps if we do indulge in a piece of cake and eat in a tuned-in way, we will feel satisfied both cognitively and physiologically. We can also feel that a ripe juicy peach is indulgent. When we reject the labels of “good” or “bad” or “healthy” or “unhealthy,” and it’s just the wonderful world of the variety of foods we get to chose from, when we think a little about nutrition in our meal planning so that we can meet our needs for hunger and fullness, and basic food group kind of thing, then we can begin to get the head-game off the table and eat based on what our mouths and bodies tell us, not our brains. (eating competence.) I can see these folks now labeling fat-free fiber shakes as “indulgent and creamy,” but we won’t be fooled so easily, and in the meantime the trickery, the sales pitch won’t help…" Note: I don't like the dissing of "organic foods" they can be just as satisfying as "junk food" (bob's red mill Brownies= amazing!!!)

- FATIZEN 24602 by Philip Charles Barragan II (Author), Mason Arrigo (Illustrator) //// Official site /// Role play blog - "In a dystopian America of the not-too-distant future, the Office of Size Compliance (OSC) claims there is a national food shortage and Congress has enacted the Endomorphic Laws in its war on obesity. It is now a crime for citizens to have Body Mass Indices of 30 or more. Fast food, eating in public restaurants, contraband back-alley breads, butter and meats, and fried chicken and desserts are felonies for the obese, and pre-programmed grocery carts direct oversized shoppers to spend their grocery allotments on federally-sanctioned foods produced by the OSC. ‘Fatizen’ felons are imprisoned in Calorie Camps or sent to Psychogenic Re-Integration – or worse – while families are torn apart, and parents sell their children with the ‘deviant condition’ of obesity. This debut novel declares that ‘Fat is not a four-letter word’ in a big way. The fast-paced plot is action-packed and driven by its unforgettable characters. By turns poignant and graphic, this is a story that is unnervingly close to home even today. Secret, grisly technology drives the world of the OSC as the fatizens’ rebel underground works to contain the worst of the Dietary Guard Patrol. Author Philip Barragan takes us full-tilt into a profound civil rights issue, and, of necessity, the subject matter, violence and language have sharp edges and may be uncomfortable for some readers. But that’s the point. Barragan’s searing, thought-provoking dialogue and Mason Arrigo’s complex and arresting illustrations together serve up a warning about tolerance and acceptance: the future is not all that far away. ‘Fatizen’ Delilah Palladino has found a secure channel to impart an important message and the time to pay attention is now."

- Maybe we should be using this for people who need change (like bigots) instead of a tool in conversion therapy and trying to make fat people lose weight.

- PAVLOK - can be good if you want to quit smoking, but used to diet it can be dangerous as you associate pain with food. It "helps with cravings" but that is not healthy psychologicaly or from a nutritional point of view. it can also lead to an eating disorder, and using it to diet is promiting an eating disordered way of thinking.

BMR (Basal metabolic rate)
- Calculate Your Basal Metabolic Rate! @ Body Building - "Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the amount of energy expended while at rest in a neutrally temperate environment, in the post-absorptive state (meaning that the digestive system is inactive, which requires about twelve hours of fasting). The release of energy in this state is sufficient only for the functioning of the vital organs, such as the heart, lungs, brain and the rest of the nervous system, liver, kidneys, sex organs, muscles and skin. BMR decreases with age and with the loss of lean body mass. Increasing muscle mass increases BMR."
- "Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the minimal rate of energy expenditure per unit time by endothermic animals at rest. (McNab, B. K. 1997). On the Utility of Uniformity in the Definition of Basal Rate of Metabolism. Physiol. Zool. Vol.70; Metabolism refers to the processes that the body needs to function. Basal Metabolic Rate is the amount of energy expressed in calories that a person needs to keep the body functioning at rest. Some of those processes are breathing, blood circulation, controlling body temperature, cell growth, brain and nerve function, and contraction of muscles. Basal metabolic rate (BMR) affects the rate that a person burns calories and ultimately whether you maintain, gain, or lose weight. Your basal metabolic rate accounts for about 60 to 75% of the calories you burn every day. It is influenced by several factors.BMR typically declines by 1-2% per decade after age 20, mostly due to loss of fat-free mass, although the variability between individuals is high" - Wikipedia
TDEE
- "1. Thermic Effect of Activity (TEA): This is the amount of calories burned while exercising. The more intensely your muscles are working — sprinting during intervals or flexing while lifting weights — the more calories you’ll burn. And if you’ve completed a higher intensity workout, your body will have to work even harder to replenish its oxygen stores, resulting in an afterburn effect known as EPOC. 2. Thermic Effect of Feeding (TEF): When you digest food and absorb its nutrients, your body uses energy in the form of calories. “It’s only roughly three to five percent of your daily calorie needs,” Dr. Sacheck says, noting that proteins and fiber have the highest thermic effect, meaning they require the most amount of calories to digest per calorie consumed." - Daily Burn
- "This is a very precise metabolic calculator. It calculates your resting metabolic rate and your total energy consumption in calories or kilojoules. This can be a helpful tool for weight loss as it allows you to estimate the amount of calories that represents your energy balance" - Health Calc

(note :This is thought of as the reason why people get meat sweats. If this is true and nitrites are not the cause let's look at vegans for the answer. Do vegans get "meat sweats" not that I know of, therefore I personally believe that the "meat sweats" are not the cause of a lot of protein in the body, but nitrites.).This could also be why some people are bigger and some people are smaller than others. Because the foods they eat burn at different energy levels. Nothing wrong with that because you would legitimately go insane trying to figure out what food burn at what rates, how fast are YOU burning calories, PLUS worrying about calories, PLUS etc, etc, etc.

- Thermic Effect of Food- The thermic effect of food is an increase in metabolic rate (i.e. calorie burn) that occurs after eating. When you eat food your body must burn some calories to digest, absorb, and store the nutrients you've eaten. This article defines the thermic effect of food and discusses the factors that influence it.

Auto-cannibalism/Autophagy
nothing says "healthy" and "sexy" like your body eating itself
- Why diets don't work: Starved brain cells eat themselves, study finds @ Science Daily
- Auto-Cannibal Dieting: Eat yourself thin, literally by Denis Faye - The Nutrition Nerd"When people get like this, the first thing they typically do is go on a starvation diet. Much to my frustration, this typically works. But it rarely lasts. Mega-calorie deficits aren’t sustainable. You lose the weight, but you don’t learn how to eat to keep the weight off, so you usually gain it all back. Furthermore, you’re more likely to burn out and quit your diet or, worse, injure yourself working out because you’re not eating enough to recover properly..."
- Dieting Starves Your Brain Cells, Turning Neurons Into Self-Cannibals By Joseph Castro - "Scientists, reporting in the journal Cell Metabolism, have now learned that when you starve yourself of calories, your brain cells also starve, causing your neurons to begin eating parts of themselves for energy. The self-cannibalism, in turn, cranks up hunger signals... (note: talks of "treatment of obesity" bs.
- All Diets Are High-Fat Diets - "Either way, you've got to burn through your own fat, so it stands to reason that a diet that both satisfies your hunger relative to low-fat or "balanced" restricted, as well as keeps insulin low so your fat stores can more easily be released, is probably the best strategy you can implement. Moreover, the two are, of course, related. You're not hungry (or as hungry) because you're getting the energy from your own fat, while the low-fatter or balanced, "everything-in-moderation" genius is perpetually hungry because both diets typically involve a high proportion of carbohydrate, lots as crap frankenfood. Insulin remains elevated, body fat remains locked in, they're hungrier, lose less weight, fail, and then get invited on Oprah because misery loves company. (I was going to do a post on Oprah's 1,000th diet failure; still might, but it may instead come in bits & pieces asides and diversions.)"
- @Brain Study - "The implications of these results in weight loss and dieting further support the idea that fasting or extreme low-calorie diets are only beneficial in immediate weight loss, but can have substantial contradictory results in the long term. It is widely accepted that food deprivation causes one to feel hungry and irritable, but the notion that diets can lead to brain cell loss, resulting in a greater inability to manage what one eats, is a novel theory. This can lead to loss of control, binges, regret, and further self-imposed starvation that is often seen in the vicious cycle of extreme dieting"

- "Lanugo is the formal name for soft, downy, fine white hair that grows mainly on the arms and chests of female anorexics. Lanugo will not grow on all anorexics, but it is usually found on anorexics who have suffered from severe weight loss and are approaching emaciation. Why Does Lanugo Develop? The growth of lanugo is one of the body’s ways of insulating itself. When an anorexic loses too much weight and no longer has enough body fat to help heat herself, the body takes over and grows lanugo. These hairs grow in thickly and attempt to trap heat that is lost from the body before it dissipates. Lanugo is almost like a blanket that the body grows itself." - eating Disorder Experts (dot) co (dot) uk

Ketone bodies
Ketone bodies
- Ketone bodies - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - "Ketone bodies are three water-soluble molecules (acetoacetate, beta-hydroxybutyrate, and their spontaneous breakdown product, acetone) that are produced by the liver from fatty acids[1] during periods of low food intake (fasting), carbohydrate restrictive diets, starvation, prolonged intense exercise,[2] or in untreated (or inadequately treated) type 1 diabetes mellitus. These ketone bodies are readily picked up by the extra-hepatic tissues, and converted into acetyl-CoA which then enters the citric acid cycle and is oxidized in the mitochondria for energy.[3] In the brain, ketone bodies are also used to make acetyl-CoA into long-chain fatty acids. The latter cannot be obtained from the blood, because they cannot pass through the blood–brain barrier.Ketone bodies are produced by the liver under the circumstances listed above (i.e. fasting, starving, low carbohydrate diets, prolonged exercise and untreated type 1 diabetes mellitus) as a result of intense gluconeogenesis, which is the production of glucose from non-carbohydrate sources (not including fatty acids). They are therefore always released into the blood by the liver together with newly produced glucose, after the liver glycogen stores have been depleted. (These glycogen stores are depleted after only 24 hours of fasting.)"

- Ketoacidosis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - "Ketoacidosis is a pathological metabolic state marked by extreme and uncontrolled ketosis. In ketoacidosis, the body fails to adequately regulate ketone production causing such a severe accumulation of keto acids that the pH of the blood is substantially decreased. In extreme cases ketoacidosis can be fatal.Ketoacidosis is most common in untreated type 1 diabetes mellitus, when the liver breaks down fat and proteins in response to a perceived need for respiratory substrate. Prolonged alcoholism may lead to alcoholic ketoacidosis.Ketoacidosis can be smelled on a person's breath. This is due to acetone, a direct by-product of the spontaneous decomposition of acetoacetic acid. It is often described as smelling like fruit or nail polish remover. Ketosis may also smell, but the odor is usually more subtle due to lower concentrations of acetone....Three common causes of ketoacidosis are alcohol, starvation, and diabetes, resulting in alcoholic ketoacidosis, starvation ketoacidosis, and diabetic ketoacidosis respectively.....In starvation ketoacidosis, the body resorts to ketosis to meet energy needs after peripheral glycogen reserves have been depleted.
