The mirror
The mirror is the reason why we have so many issues, but is seeing yourself the worst thing? Demons are crawling out of it and you all are worried about how big your tummy looks? Here, I'm putting creepy stories and videos about how creepy the mirror is and how what we look like is the least of our problems ;)

Starring at yourself for a long time is a scary trick people do similar to bloody mary & candyman (both true & fictional stories) (flashed face distortion effect)
- 'Something about watching your own face twist, it's just unnerving in such a deep, personal way....Don't ever do it. If you're reading this, just don't. I did it recently, on the spur. I was walking out of my kitchen, and my bathroom door was open. There was just enough light from the little kitchen light to see the mirror. I stared, and watched my face turn ugly. Same as always. Until it smiled back. At first I thought I smiled. No, the reflection did. I don't know much, but I know that whatever is on the other side of the mirror hates you. Maybe because we just see it as our reflection, our property, something to use to comb our hair and brush our teeth. But it's alive. And full of hate.I hear it now, at night, tapping on the mirror. It wants out. I tried to show my wife, but it's smart. She just sees the reflection, but as soon as she turns around, it smiles at me.' - ""The Demon in the Mirror Trick" by BanningK1979 . The Troxler Effect (aka SELECTIVE PERIPHERAL FADING)
- An Optical Illusion that Explains the Origins of Imaginary Monsters @ i09 - "The Troxler Effect fades out features that a person isn't directly staring at. Those features are filled in with what's around them.... The Troxler Effect wanders over the entire face, distorting it massively. The person then often instinctively turns those distortions into things that they can actually recognize, even if it scares them. ...The brain gets tired of processing the mundane and, accidentally, cooks up a monster to entertain us."

- Troxler's fading - Wikipedia - "Troxler's fading, or Troxler fading, or the Troxler effect, is an optical illusion affecting visual perception. When one fixates on a particular point for even a short period of time, an unchanging stimulus away from the fixation point will fade away and disappear."

- Cortical Hemming and Hawing: Halloween Post: The "Bloody Mary" illusion - "Caputo got 50 volunteers, who had no idea what they were supposed to see, and had them stare at themselves in a mirror in a dimly lit room. At the end of a ten minute period, the volunteers were asked to write down what they saw. Two thirds of the participants reported seeing huge deformations of their own face, and nearly half reported seeing "fantastical" or "monstrous" beings. Smaller proportions reported seeing the faces of parents, or of ancestors, and some saw the faces of strangers, including old women and children. In all 50 cases, the participants reported some form of dissociative identity effect, which is to say, they felt like what they saw in the mirror was someone (or something) other than themselves. Many felt like they were being watched by the "other" in the mirror, and some reported getting scared or anxious because they felt that the face in the mirror looked angry. Caputo offers some speculations as to what might be causing these effects, but as yet, there is no complete explanation for all of the phenomena that were reported. "

your reflection from the mirror world
- "The next time you’re alone in your room, turn down the lights. Think of something on your body that varies in length, such as hair. It must be clearly viewable from your perspective. Grab a ruler and, looking in the mirror, quickly grab a hair at random; you must confuse it. Hold it in position as best you can and note the length. Look down. Yours will be different.Don’t look back up.Don’t turn your back to that mirror ever again." - Creepypasta - The Mirror

Glitches in the matrix: mirrors
From Redditt - "A personal, everyday-mode experience for which you have no explanation....Most people have experiences of knowing someone was about to call before they did, or have other highly unlikely coincidences or synchronicities happen.
- Darkroom Vision & Chef Hats & Dreams by TriumphantGeorge
- "I remember working in a kitchen, when a few of the cooks began to wear tall white paper hats like the chef had always worn. One of these cook's had a similar body-type as the chef, and sometimes when he'd enter the kitchen, from a distance and out the side of eye, in peripheral vision, I would actually "see" the chef enter the room, until he got closer and the image would shift back to the cook in question. This happened after I had started meditating and noticing the activity of my mind more. I was surprised, because it wasn't just that I was unsure of who this person and thought, "That might be the chef", it was the for a really brief moment, I actually had an image in mind of the chef entering the room, which was quickly altered as the cook came into better focus.Interesting also in that, from a social primate point-of-view, my mind was always scanning for the chef's presence, and how he might view my work."Darkroom Vision & Chef Hats & Dreams by TriumphantGeorge
- I have always been mesmerized my mirrors. I think they hold some type of energy or power that we can't comprehend. My mom and I lived with my grandma in an old busted up home. We were poor and I knew it. But living in a ghetto neighborhood made things easier, since everyone was poor too. When I was 10, I remembering messing around in my bedroom. My mom and I shared a room, so I was always being nosy and going through all her stuff. As I approached her dresser, I remember looking at myself in the mirror. I made some faces at my reflection, but then things got weird. I waved at myself with my right hand and my reflection waved back....but it was opposite. If you were looking at the mirror and raise your hand, the reflection's hand would be the left hand, but in this occurrence, the reflection's right hand waved. I kept making gestures and everything was opposite.
I freaked out and ran to get my mom, I explained and tried to show her, but everything was back to normal."Opposite Reflection in the Mirror by long5ace - "So this happened when I was very young probably around 13-14 yo. I would spend alot of time entertaining myself. I'd look in the mirror in the bathroom and pretend that I was an actress, come up with random lines, watch my facial expressions as I was expressing different emotions etc. So this particular time. I was looking at myself thinking 'wow, this is my face...how come we're all born with different faces..and we look so different?'...1-2 seconds later, my reflection looked away, more to the side, it didn't move, just the eyes, as I was still staring at my reflection, it kept looking away. As soon as I realized that it wasn't supposed to be doing that, I jumped, didn't scream but I ran to the livingroom and called one of my friends (I was home alone)...my heart was pounding all day and I didn't move or leave the room until my mom came back home...I can't explain why this happened til this very day..."- Disobediant mirror/reflection by Montese
- "I had a very peculiar thing happen to me a few hours ago. I was brushing my teeth and when I looked in the mirror, my reflection blinked. It was like there was someone else behind the mirror other than the singular blink, nothing else was off with the mirror/reflection. I thought that maybe you guys could help me with an explanation. I wasn't under the influence of any drugs, this is the first time something like this has happened to me."-Strange mirror glitch by Tf2_man
- Hey guys, I don't really know how to explain this, nor am I sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes. I work in retail, and I'm usually one of the ones who close. Sometimes, part of my closing duties involve cleaning the mirrors throughout the store-usually no big deal. As I was cleaning one mirror tonight however, I noticed that my "reflection" was wearing a necklace. I personally don't wear necklaces unless it's for a special occasion or something, but this looked like a simple, everyday kind of necklace. It had some name on it, but I don't think it was mine. I didn't get too good of a look, because when I noticed, I kind of did a double take and when I looked back, it was just my reflection.I don't really know what to make of this. Can anyone think of a rational explanation for this?"Saw a...alternate version of myself in the mirror? by br0itskatie
- "When I drive, I am constantly looking in my rear-view mirror because I just like to be cautious of who is behind me and how fast they are going, when they want to pass, etc. There has been many times that I catch somebody going into my blind spot, but learn to find out, that there really was no car there. It usually happens during the day, but has also happened at night, which was weird, because I thought I saw headlights. The most recent glitch was yesterday when I could have sworn I saw the tail end of a white vehicle entering my blind spot, waiting for it to pass me, only to find that there really want not any white cars around me. Only a red one and a black one. I turned to verify. That's what made me finally want to post this here." I see cars in my rear-view mirror that are not actually there...by WhoWhyWhatWhenWhere
- "I have read stories about people seeing things in a mirror but could not see them directly. I had that happen today. I was getting ready to back out of a parking space. I looked in the rear view mirror and seen something. It was right at the rear bumper of my truck. It was brown and fury. Now it could have been just a person in a fur coat. I wheeled around real quick to get a look at what it was and it was gone. I got out of the truck and looked all up and down the road. I had a good 200 yards of visibility. There was not place for what ever it was to hide. In short I seen a 6 foot tall fury 'something' in my rear view mirror and I could not see it when I looked back. Has any one else ever seen something in a mirror only not be be able to see it directly?" Mirror Glitch? Reddit Thread
